Welcome to Barefoot Pudels
we are located in SoCal northeast of Lake Elsinore
We have an opportunity for a quality home to foster or co-own one of our exceptional moyen/klein poodle puppies that will be their loving and caring forever home and we breed a couple of times then I pay for their neutering. see the Foster Home/Co-Owner tab for more info.
Quality First
we breed poodles to enhance the poodle breed
our first priority is quality proven by OFA tested results on the OFA database website
(www.offa.org)
Everad and Hilde just had a beautiful litter of a few klein/moyens, mostly small and regular standard poodle litter. The puppies are excellent in every way: intelligence, conformation, a beauty bred from years of high quality poodles. You can see it in everything they do, they are exceptional poodles. We have two of them being trained in the PpaWWs as therapy doggies for wounded veterans of war. They come back to us b/c of our puppies' personality, intelligence and overall beauty.
Size is our second priority
when our breeding males and females pass and prove excellence do we breed them
our secondary priority is size, what FCI calls the kleinpudel/caniche moyen, 14-18" grown
we love this take along, easy to manage size of the very small standard poodle
Color is the fun part
Silver Moyens, Red Moyens and Cream Moyens
Our first real breeding female is Grace. I got her for her background and conformation, strong stocky body. I fell in love with the silver on her and her gorgeous silver puppies.
Our very first klein female was a cream, we got her brother due to their beauty, personality and overall size and just a gorgeous poodle. We now breed for creams.
My parents raised Irish Setters, once I lay my eyes on an Irish Setter Red Poodle my heart is smitten for this magnificent color. Of course always looking to quality first, size second and then color, we have come so far to perfecting the beautiful quality poodle puppies now in reds.
We get an occasional black and blue puppy with our foundation bitch "Hilde" Her quality and overall exceptional beauty is second to none. Being a 'blue' she throws any color we breed her to ... and throws in the quality and personality every poodle owner loves to have, including us.
Two litters of Red Moyen/klein puppies ready to go home fall/winter
We've taken a long time to get from quality to size to color, we have what we claim to have: kick but high quality gorgeous poodles. One day soon we will get back into showing and performance training our poodles,
for now, we are raising our poodles holistically, neurally stimulating the babies, raise everyone in our home, and no puppy is chosen before the personality testing is complete (www.volhard.com). I think the one comment we get from people that come to our house ... "you are exactly what you claim to be on the internet"! I was expecting different."
Watch out for breeders that will send sickly, under nourished, parasite riddled, quirky poodles. If a breeder is breeding a couple of males for a million females and pumping them out like a little beehive and charging extraordinary amount of money... and won't show their poodle's genetic testing and health screening ... be ware!
here at Barefoot Pudels, we breed excellence and can prove it
sincerely,
Paula and Jim

The standard poodle is regarded as the second most intelligent breed of dog after the Border Collie, and before the German Shepherd. The poodle breed is found officially in toy, miniature, and standard sizes, with many coat colors. Originally bred as a type of water dog, the poodle is skillful in many sports, including agility, obedience, tracking and even herding. Poodles have taken top honors in many conformation shows, including "Best in Show" at the Westminister Kennel Club Dog Show in 1991 and 2002, and at the World Dog Show in 2007 and 2010.
Poodle sizes
Unlike most breeds, poodles can come in a variety of sizes, distinguished by adult shoulder (withers) height. The exact height cutoffs among the varieties vary slightly from country to country. Non-Federation Cynologique Internationale kennel clubs generally recognize three sizes: standard, miniature, and toy, sometimes as sizes of the same breed, and sometimes as separate breeds. TheFederation Cynologique Internationale recognizes four sizes of one breed, standard, medium, miniature, and toy. Only the Federation Cynologique Internationale describes a maximum size for standard poodles. France is the country responsible for the breed in the Federation Cynologique Internationale, and in this country the puppies of all sizes are listed together. The terms royal standard, teacup and tiny teacup are marketing names, and are not recognized by any major kennel club.
For comparison of poodle sizes defined by the major kennel clubs, click,
per the Federation Cynologique,
the standard poodle is over 45 cm to 60 cm (18ins to 24ins)
the medium, moyen poodle is over 35 cm to 45 cm (14ins to 18ins)
the miniature - Dwarf, Nain, is over 28 cm to 35 cm (11ins to 14ins)
the toy is 24 cm to 28 cm (9.4ins to 11ins)
AKC designates a grown poodle that is under 15" as a miniature poodle. The FCI's (European & Austrailia) designates a full grown poodle that's 14-18" at the withers is a caniche moyen (in most of Europe) and a kleinpudel (in Germany). The smallest of the moyen/klein size in FCI's size designation for AKC's designation is officially a miniature poodle (since AKC has not yet created the official size of caniche moyen) . A full grown poodle that's over 15" (even by a hair like Viktor) is registered as a standard poodle. I have been told that AKC is considering designating the size of the "caniche moyen" as a variety of the poodle breed. How AKC designates the height of a poodle in the future once this designation is official and in the conformation show ring as a variety of the poodle breed will bring clarity to this topic. But for now, any of our poodles that we project will be between 14-18" measured on the highest point of the shoulder blade is called the moyen/klein.
Temperament
A standard poodle catching
Otherwise notable is this breed's keen sense for instinctual behavior. In particular, marking and hunting drives are more readily observable than in most other breeds. Even Toys will point birds. Classified as highly energetic, poodles can also get bored fairly easily and have been known to get creative about finding mischief. Poodles like to be in the center of things and are easily trained to do astonishing tricks involving both brains and agility. They have performed in circuses for centuries, beginning in Europe, and have been part of the Ringling Circus in its various forms from its inception. The Grimaldis, the famous British clowns Kenneth and Audrey Austin, "developed a stronger circus act" with a clever poodle named 'Twinkle,' the success of which allowed them to continue performing even as octogenarians."[17]
Poodles are extremely people-oriented dogs and generally eager to please. Standard poodles in particular tend to be good with children. Poodles are adaptable and easy to train, but sometimes their intelligence can make them obstinate and stubborn. Like most dogs, they appreciate daily exercise, such as a walk or a play session. Most are fairly agile and athletic.
Toy poodles will play ball and love to fetch. Play time is vital, but one must be sure that they get plenty of rest following long play periods and that fresh water is available at all times.
Poodles are very easy to housebreak. Whether going outside or being trained on a pad, they learn quickly where to defecate. They are still animals, however, and they need time to understand what is desired of them. It may take a while, but poodles are quite smart and learn more quickly than most dogs.
PpaWWs
We now have three puppies with PpaWWs, Maggie and Laura, being trained to become a veterans therapy doggie(s). We are very proud of our puppies and it's a pleasure working with Maggie, now meeting Laura, with PpaWWs. Veterans that go into the program select which breed they want to be trained for them, and then they request a puppy from us which is an honor for us to contribute our big puppies to them.
What you might not know about Jim
While in high school I was in JROTC, after graduating from high school I did four years of Active Duty mostly in San Fransico area in Californin and then finally in Pittsburg and Harrisburg Pennsylvania on a bouy tender. I stayed in the Coast Guard Reserves making Warrant Officer. After 9/11 I was mobilized 3 times first in Seattle to protect military assets in Pudget Sound. Second time I was sent to Kuwait/Iraq to protect Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy in preperation for the war IRAQ. Recalled for a third again to protect military assets going to Iraq and Afganistan. Retired from the Coast Guard reserves after 32 years. Now I work as a civilain for the Coast Guard in support of Ice Breakers. As a veteran and one who has served in war, my wife and I both feel honored to work with PpaWWs for veterans that are in need of a lifetime therapy doggie. These dogs provide unconditional love and support just what veterans need.
